Zynga Gambling Idea came from Mark Pincus’ Winnings

For the longest time, social game-maker Zynga claimed that they weren’t interested in entering the real money gambling world. After all, they’ve already grown immensely as a company by running play money casino and poker games for Facebook users.

However, this all changed last month when Zynga talked about how they were intrigued by offering real money casino games. Interestingly enough, a major reason for this change involves CEO Mark Pincus’ positive experience with gambling.

While speaking at a recent technology conference, Pincus began talking about Zynga gambling aspirations and what led him down this road. A big changing point came when Pincus was playing casino games at the Wynn Las Vegas while his wife was shopping. Going further, he said, “I have a fancy watch that I won at The Wynn. I was gambling for a half hour while my wife was shopping. I went in and gambled and won this watch.”

Pincus would go on to discuss the benefits of casino games as he said they are casual, and involve a lot of social elements. Seeing as how Zynga’s main claim to fame is social networking games, adding real money gambling to their list of offerings only makes sense based on Pincus’ thoughts.

It looks like much of the Zynga gambling decision will rely on whether or not the United States government decides to legalize and regulate online gambling any time soon. Currently, there’s a lot of debate about whether online casino games should be legalized at the state or federal level. As of now, individual states in America are much closer to running their own internet casino operations, while the federal government seems light years away from coming to any sort of decision on the matter.
