More US Casinos offering 6:5 Blackjack Payouts
If there’s one thing experienced blackjack players hate, it’s when casinos slip 6:5 natural blackjack payouts into the mix. When casinos change blackjack payouts from 3:2 to 6:5, it increases the house edge by almost 1.5%. This being said, a growing number of casino players are becoming alarmed by the large amount of establishments that offer 6:5 payouts.
Las Vegas casinos are really bad about offering low natural blackjack payouts – especially on the Strip. Many of these gaming venues realize they can still fill low stakes tables because a lot of players don’t think 6:5 payoffs make much difference. Furthermore, blackjack party pits, which commonly feature low payouts, are able to pull in both inexperienced and knowledgable blackjack players.
Bill Zender, who is a Las Vegas casino consultant, discussed the party pit concept by saying, “The whole idea is (casinos) are trying to win some more money, obviously. You are looking at this gorgeous girl, and there is another girl in a g-string swinging from a pole. 6:5 (payouts), you can get away with it there.”
Even places that don’t have girls in g-strings swinging from poles are strongly considering lower natural blackjack payoffs. The South Dakota Commission on Gaming is working on a measure that would enable state casinos to offer reduced payouts.
Deadwood, South Dakota is a town that’s really looking forward to this because their casino industry has taken a hit in recent years. Gaming revenue was down by 5% in 2011, which wasn’t helped by the city smoking ban or poor economy.
Since that time, maximum blackjack bets have been raised from $100 to $1,000 and the revenue has increased. With 6:5 payouts possibly becoming an option, casino revenue in Deadwood and other parts of South Dakota is expected to increase even more.
Unfortunately, the growing 6:5 payoff trend doesn’t bode well for blackjack players who are hoping to make some profits. Perhaps this is why more and more players are gravitating towards online blackjack games because there are almost always 3:2 payouts here.
