Tourist rings in 2015 New Year with €520k Slots Jackpot

A Belgian tourist will be making a lot of New Year’s resolutions after winning a €519,956 jackpot just before the 2015 New Year rang in.

The 25-year-old man was touring France and stopped in at the Casino Barrière de La Rochelle. He started putting change into the machine and, after one particular turn, where he put 23 cents into the game, he hit the life-changing jackpot.

As can be imagined, the young man was awestruck at the sight of the flashing lights and huge progressive jackpot. He didn’t provide the media with any comments on the big win, however, the casino’s manager, Christopher Jordan, did offer some words.

“It’s unreal. He seemed groggy, overcome with emotion and could barely talk,” Jordan said. “We had to pay attention to his emotional state and adjust to him. This young man had to be calmed down in this case because the sky fell on his head! Albeit a blue sky, anyway.”

Despite the man’s disoriented state after the jackpot, it’s highly likely that he was more than happy about the matter. And we can only guess that he ushered in the New Year with plenty of alcohol, celebrating his new windfall and the largest jackpot in Casino Barrière de La Rochelle history.

But is this the biggest jackpot in French history? Not by a long shot because, in March of 2011, a multi-million euro prize was won at the Joa Casino Port Crouesty. Another anonymous player hit the “Magic Jackpot” slot machine, which connects 300 machines, leading to a €9,420,902 payout. Given the sheer size of this prize, it may be quite some time before somebody tops the €9.43 million record jackpot.
