Sweden Gambling like Crazy

The Swedish National Institute of Public Health recently did a study on Sweden gambling habits, and discovered that a large percentage of Swedes are gambling online. Going further, the Institute believes that the statistics show how many Swedish residents exhibit problem gambling symptoms.

Starting with the statistics, the study showed that one out of every 10 people between the ages of 18 and 24 gamble online. When looking at Sweden’s population as a whole, this accounts for 450,000 people. Taking the stats a step further, it’s estimated that around 40,000 people in this group are addicted to gambling; this is double what studies found 10 years ago.

One of the people involved with the study, Marie Risbeck, spoke about the troubling statistics by saying, “When we look at the evolution of different population groups, there are are number of warning signs.” She also added, “We know that more than 260,000 people live together with a problem player, of which 75,000 are children.”

Going further with the negative numbers, the Swedish National Institute of Public Health study also claims that there’s lots of underage online gamblers in Sweden. Risbeck was there to chime in on this point too as she stated, “Despite the fact that there is an 18-year-old limit on all gambling… many minors state that they have played for money in various forms.”

Despite the hysteria spread by this study, it doesn’t look like online gambling will die out in Sweden any time soon. In fact, the Sweden gambling world contains some of the world’s best online poker pros such as Viktor “Isildur1″ Blom. Many consider Blom to be the best heads-up poker player in the world, and he constantly generates poker news headlines each week.
