Italy Online Gambling generating $2.2 Billion

posted in news

Italy has now become one of the biggest online gambling nations in the world, and they’re spending over $2.2 billion annually at online casinos. A big reason for the spike in Italian online gambling is the fact that the country has passed more favorable internet betting laws recently. And with regulated online poker markets in place, Italians have been wagering more money than ever before.

What’s amazing about all of this is that the big online gambling increase doesn’t even include online slots because this casino game hasn’t been regulated in the country yet. But considering the fact that online slots are the most popular among gamblers as a whole, the $2.2 billion spending figure is expected to increase rapidly.

CNBC released some pretty interesting information in regards to Italians and their online gambling habits. The info came from CNBC’s article on the “World’s Biggest Gambling Nations,” and here is what it said:

Italians’ favorite gambling activity is to play electronic gaming machines such as slots. According to a 2010 study conducted by strategy and business advisory firm MAG Consulenti Associati, electronic gaming machines generated nearly half of Italy’s total gaming revenues in the first half of 2010. During just that six-month period, gaming revenues totaled $22 billion in the country.

It’s no surprise that Italians have become such a force in online gambling, seeing as how the activity of gambling has some deep roots in Italian culture. Baccarat was invented in this country, and Italy is home to the first government-run casino. Assuming their gaming keeps up like it is, Italy could be known as the biggest online gambling country in the world as well.
