Grandma steals £272k, loses it Gambling
UK grandma Kathleen Clark is facing some serious charges after admitting to embezzling £272,000 so that she could go gambling in casinos. Clark stole the money from a travel agency where she worked by allocating funds to fake customer complaints. Rather than going to dissatisfied customers, the money was really going into Clark’s bank account.
In 2009, the 60-year-old quit the Thompson Travel company, only to steal a key on her way out. Clark then used the key to sneak into Thompson Travel late at night, and move more money into her account. When it was all said and done, she’d taken £272,000 from the travel agency so that she could gamble in casinos.
After Clark left Thompson Travel, the company did an audit and discovered the missing £272k, along with another missing £100,000. Interestingly enough, the £100k in stolen funds came from two other workers who were doing the same thing that Clark did.
However, they did not act as a team, and the granny clearly stated this by saying, “Me and the others weren’t working as a team. It’s just a coincidence that we all did the same thing. It would appear that it was just too easy to do, and we all gave in to temptation. Other than that, I don’t wish to say anything else other than to express my regret once more.”
Fortunately, Kathleen Clark seemed to regret her decision as she told reporters, “I regret the pressure it has put on my family. I’m so sorry for what I have done. I did it because I gamble. I’m now being treated for gambling addiction. I feel so ashamed.” Currently, Clark is out on bail, and waiting to hear her sentencing for the embezzlement.
