Donald Trump is Possible Online Gambling Savior
Many online gambling enthusiasts are supporting Donald Trump’s bid for presidency because he could potentially aid internet betting. Trump has a long history with gambling since he headed Trump Entertainment for years, and presided over the Atlantic City-based Trump Marina Casino and the Trump Taj Mahal; he still owns a big stake in Trump Entertainment.
Seeing as how Trump has been so involved in gambling in the past, it’s no wonder why he has taken a liberal view towards online gambling. And as Trump and many other people with ties to Atlantic City know, legalizing and regulating internet gambling could be the key to turning around the sagging AC casino scene.
Trump has been hitting the campaign trail quite a bit lately while trying to win voter support. However, Trump has yet to be asked anything about the online gambling issue, which will no doubt play a heavier part as we near the 2012 Presidential Election. This is especially the case in the aftermath of the US Department of Justice crackdown on internet poker sites such as UB Poker, PokerStars and Full Tilt.
Another thing to think about in regards to Trump’s bid for the presidency is that he is running as a Republican. And the conservatives have traditionally been against online gambling dating back to when the UIGEA was implemented in 2006 by Republicans. Gaming analyst Steve Schwartz commented on this aspect by saying, “It would certainly be interesting to see if Trump would stand up to members of his own party when it comes to the online gambling issue. If he did, it likely would be the end of prohibition in the US.”
If Trump is willing to stand up to members of the Republican party in regards to online gambling, it would certainly give the Democrats a powerful ally in their efforts to legalize the activity.
