Different Video Poker Games

posted in Video Poker

Many beginning video poker players share a common line of logic: video poker is video poker. Unfortunately, this line of logic couldn’t be further from the truth since there are all kinds of different video poker games out there. Here is a quick look at some of the different versions of video poker.

Deuces and Jokers Wild

If you can find a Deuces and Jokers Wild game, then you are in luck because this game provides frequent payouts. The reason why you’ll see a lot of payouts with Deuces and Jokers Wild is because both deuces and jokers are wild in this game. So anytime you have a 2 or joker in your hand, you can substitute these cards to make your hand.

Deuces Wild

Deuces Wild games are much more common than Deuces and Jokers Wild. As the name implies, deuces are wild in this game so you can use a 2 to substitute for any card. Since there is a wild card, you often have to get a three-of-a-kind just to get a payout in this game.

Jokers Wild

Jokers Wild is very similar to Deuces Wild in that it only uses the joker as the wild card – not jokers and deuces. However, the payouts are usually more generous because players will get a win by getting a pair of kings or higher.

Double Joker

The only real difference between Jokers Wild and Double Joker is that there are two jokers in the deck in this game. Since the deck has two jokers, the minimum winning hand is a two pair.

Jacks or Better

Jacks or Better is the most common version of video poker that you’ll see offered. In Jacks or Better, there is no wild card. However, the one advantage of jacks or better is that players will get a win if they have jacks or better in their hand.
