Baccarat is a simple card game that began in France during the late 1400’s. It is one of the easiest casino games to play because there are only a few possible results. Either the banker will win, the player will win, or the hand will result in a tie. The Baccarat table also reflects the results since each player will have 3 spaces in front of them: The first space will have a letter from the word P-L-A-Y-E-R-S, the second space will have a letter from the word B-A-N-K-E-R-S, and the third space will have a space marked 8-1 tie. As you might have guessed, bets on the player winning go in the first space, bets on the banker go in the second space, and wagers on the hand being a tie go in the third space. All number cards are worth their value (i.e. 2-9), all face cards are worth 0, and the ace is worth 1 point. The ultimate goal of Baccarat is to get as close to 8 or 9 in two or three cards. Two cards are initially dealt and, depending on the total a player receives, they will either stand on their total or draw another card. If an 8 or 9 is dealt within the first two cards, this is known as a “natural” and the person will stand on this total. If the player has a 0-5, they will draw for another card. Being dealt a 6 or 7 with the initial cards will mean the player has to stand. The banker’s moves depend upon what the player draws. Once the hand is over with, the croupier will announce the winning hand as either player or banker (in online Baccarat, the software handles announcing the winner). If the hand happens to be a tie between the banker and player, then 8-1 odds will be paid out to the player if they bet that space.
