Blackjack Strategy

posted in Blackjack

Blackjack is one of the few casino games that you can make a lot of money with on a consistent basis. This is especially true if you’re able to get on a hot streak during a session and win lots of hands. However, you will experience far fewer winning sessions when you don’t know any blackjack strategy. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some tips you need to know in order to be a successful blackjack player.

Basic Strategy

The first thing you need to realize with blackjack strategy is that most of it revolves around the dealer’s first card. The reason being is that you need to know what the dealer’s chances are either of busting out or getting a score that’s near 21. Keep in mind through all of this that most casinos require the dealer to keep drawing until they hit a 17 or higher.

When the dealer draws a 4 through 6 as their first card, you should stay anytime you have a hard 12 or higher. The reason for this is that the dealer will be forced to draw two more cards (in most cases) and there’s a good chance of them busting out.

However, if you’re only holding a 12-16, you should always draw again when the dealer is holding a 2, 3, or 7. The reason being is that the dealer will have a lot more room to avoid busting out on 2 and 3 when drawing two more cards, and they can simply get a card with a value of 10 to beat you when holding a 7.

When the dealer is able to get a 10 with their first card, you are no doubt at a disadvantage and must keep drawing until you have at least a 17. Assuming the dealer is fortunate enough to get an ace on their first card, you will be offered insurance. But don’t take the insurance because it won’t pay off in the long run.
