Best Strategy for Deuces Wild Video Poker

posted in Video Poker

If you’ve read the article about the different variations of video poker in this section, then you know that Deuces Wild is a version of the game where a 2 can be substituted for any card. And while the wild card is great for players looking to land the all-important video poker jackpot, it also makes the minimum payout requirements higher too. To receive a payout in Deuces Wild, you need to get at least a three-of-a-kind.

So this will alter your video poker strategy a little bit from a game like say….Jacks or Better. Still the overall goal is to keep the cards that will provide you with the highest payouts. In hope of hitting the highest payouts, you really need to focus on the deuces.

If you have the good fortune of being dealt 4 deuces, you can keep or discard the final card because it’s irrelevant since you’ll be getting a minimum payout of 200-1 no matter what. Just make sure you hold onto the four 2’s!!

If you are dealt 3 deuces, your strategy should be to obviously keep the three 2’s and replace any card that isn’t a 10 or higher. The reason being is that you want to capitalize on an excellent opportunity like this and go for the royal flush.

With two deuces, your strategy begins with checking to see what payout you already have. If you’ve got a four-of-a-kind, you need to hold onto the cards that will guarantee you of getting the four-of-a-kind while being able to go for a five-of-a-kind. If you don’t have a four-of-a-kind or better, look for opportunities that will allow you to get a straight flush, or even royal flush.

With one deuce, your strategy will all hinge on what hand you currently hold. If needed, you should break lower paying hands like a three-of-a-kind or flush in order to go for straight flushes, four-of-a-kinds, or better. Just remember to always be looking for the higher payout with a single deuce.

With no deuces, your strategy will be very similar to the times when you have one deuce.
